Burn the Rings or Keep Them? The Sister Wives Fire Dividing Fans Tonight

Burn the Rings or Keep Them? The Sister Wives Fire Dividing Fans Tonight

Meri Brown and Robyn Brown. (The Hollywood Gossip)

Kody Brown already melted a wedding ring once. His original band from Meri went into the fire in secret while he was courting Robyn — the diamonds kept, Meri never told until years later. On Sunday night, the three women he left behind light a fire of their own.

Sister Wives Season 21, Episode 6, “Therapy By Fire,” airs Sunday, November 8, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC. Meri, Janelle and Christine come together to burn jewelry from their marriages. The fandom cannot agree whether it is a triumph or a mistake.

The Fire Tonight: Jewelry, a Blowtorch and One Word — “No”

The road to the fire started a week ago, when the three ex-wives took the jewelry Kody gave them to a jeweler. A TLC teaser showed the pieces piled in a bowl before a blowtorch melted them down. Meri put it plainly: “The ex-sister wives melt down all the jewelry from the ex-husband.” She added, “I don’t want to wear them and I don’t want them in my space.”

Christine asked Meri whether she had any regrets about the symbolic act. Meri answered with a single word: “No.” The three also decided to turn Kody’s old insult — “sister witches” — into matching pendants with diamond eyes. If the women melt down their wedding rings tonight, it will not be the first time a Brown family ring has vanished: Christine threw her own engagement ring from Kody into a field years ago.

Team Burn It All: The Healthiest Goodbye on Reality TV

Team Burn says this is the whole point of Season 21. For sixteen years, every storyline ended with Kody’s verdict. Now the three women decide together what their marriages meant.

Then there is the payback argument. Kody melted his ring from Meri in secret, without her knowledge or consent, while courting another woman. The women are melting theirs in the open, together, on camera. The matching pendants with diamond eyes complete the flip: the word Kody meant as a slam becomes jewelry they picked for themselves. For Team Burn, the women finally hold the torch instead of Kody.

Team Keep Them: Those Rings Were 30 Years of Real Life

Team Keep hears the same scene very differently, and Janelle gave them their best line. “Christine and Meri are talking about how they don’t want to put that bad energy that passes on to whoever gets the gold,” she said in a confessional. “There could be something to that. But then, do we want to keep it with all that history?”

Their case is simple: the rings were real. Meri’s marriage lasted more than thirty years, Janelle’s nearly as long, Christine’s produced six children. Melting them on camera turns a private goodbye into a television stunt — and once gold is melted, its history is gone for good. Even the divorce ring Kody gave Meri after nearly thirty years marked a chapter — and according to teaser reports, Christine suspects Robyn may have picked it out. Team Keep asks why the final chapter has to be a blowtorch.

The Twist Neither Side Can Dodge

Here is the problem for both camps: the women are now doing openly what they condemned Kody for doing in secret. If melting a wedding ring was a betrayal when Kody did it to Meri, does a camera crew and a group decision make it healing — or is it the same act with better lighting? Team Burn says Meri chose this fire. Team Keep says a ritual performed for an audience is still a performance.

Meri answered “No” when Christine asked if she had any regrets about melting the past. But if those rings were yours — thirty years of marriage, a divorce ring from Kody himself after her 2014 legal divorce, and a blowtorch waiting on the table — would you feed them to the fire tonight, or keep one in a drawer?
