From Kody’s First Wife to Tantra Yoga Speed Dating: Meri Brown’s 36-Year Road to Finding Her Person

From Kody’s First Wife to Tantra Yoga Speed Dating: Meri Brown’s 36-Year Road to Finding Her Person

Thirty-six years ago, Meri Brown married Kody Brown as his only wife. On Sunday night, she walks into a room full of strangers in San Francisco for a tantra yoga speed-dating event — looking, 36 years later, for a person who is entirely her choice.

It airs on Sister Wives Season 21, Episode 6, “Therapy by Fire,” Sunday, November 8, on TLC — the same night the three ex-wives gather to burn the jewelry from their marriages. To see why speed dating counts as brave for Meri, rewind to the beginning.

1990: The Only Wife in the Room

Meri was first. She married Kody in 1990, the only wife in the room. Janelle joined in 1993, Christine in 1994, and for two decades Meri held the title no one else could claim: the first wife, the legal wife.

She gave up that legal status in 2014, divorcing Kody on paper so he could marry Robyn and adopt her children. On the November 1 episode, Christine told Meri the idea felt “kind of planted” by Kody and Robyn. The paperwork marked the moment Meri stopped being the wife on the certificate.

The Longest Goodbye

Christine walked out first, in November 2021, after 25 years. Janelle followed in December 2022, after nearly 30. Meri stayed — the last one holding on — until she confirmed the split in January 2023. Meanwhile she built a quieter life, running her Utah bed-and-breakfast, Lizzie’s Heritage Inn.

Dating came slowly. A relationship with Amos Andrews ran from October 2023 to February 2024, according to reports. On the October 25 episode, Meri revealed that since she started dating again, her DMs have been flooded with weekly marriage proposals from polygamists. “I get proposed to, I swear, on a weekly basis,” she said. Every week, the answer is no.

Ron, Eric and the Rule About Moving Slow

The man who keeps coming up is Ron, met at a speed-dating event last year. In Season 21, Episode 2, they talked candidly: comfortable in the friend zone, in no rush, and honest that they would “absolutely make a really cute couple.” Her rule comes from her own history. “I jumped into my relationship with Kody really fast,” she said. “I just think that moving slow can be wise.”

Eric, the funny guy from an outdoor speed-dating event, showed how seriously she takes that rule — neither made a move, and she was fine with it. Meanwhile, Janelle’s new love story with Pete is already public, after she introduced him on Instagram in August 2026. Meri is not racing anyone. “I do want to connect with somebody romantically,” she has said. “I want to find my person.”

Sunday Night in San Francisco: The Fire and the First Date

That is what makes Sunday night a turning point. Before the dating event, the three ex-wives gather for the ritual the episode is named for: burning their wedding jewelry, a farewell to the life they built with Kody. Christine and Janelle then go camping and talk frankly about polygamy.

Then Meri goes to San Francisco, alone, for something she has never tried on camera: tantra yoga speed dating. No husband to check with, no sister wife to consider, no family vote. Just Meri, a room full of strangers, and a question she spent 36 years not getting to ask.

Meri wants to find her person — and says moving slow is wise. So for Sunday night: should she give Ron, the man already in her corner, a real shot — or is the stranger across the table in San Francisco worth the gamble?
