5 Family Feuds That Tore Unexpected Apart — Ranked by How Messy They Got

A grandfather sued for custody of his own grandson — and won. That is life after Unexpected: the biggest fights were never between the teen couples, but between the families around them. A ranking, not breaking news — every feud below played out in public. Counted down from the mildest to the messiest.

No. 5 — The War That Ended in a Truce: Amya and Jose

Amya and her newborn daughter — the Season 7 mom whose co-parenting war with Jose cooled into a truce. (TLC via TV Season & Spoilers)

Season 7’s Amya and Jose fought the way only two teenagers with a newborn can: loudly, publicly, both families dragged in. Their daughter arrived in February 2026, and every argument since has been about who decides for the baby. What keeps it at the bottom is the ending: according to reports, the pair now co-parent better apart than they ever did together — the rare war that actually cooled off.

No. 4 — The Mom Who Wrote the Rules for Wes: Falen Vaughn

In Bella Vaughn’s world, the gatekeeper is her mom, Falen. In July 2026, Falen reportedly laid down the law: any new boy in Bella’s life would have to get to know Bella and her family before ever meeting little Wes. Then on November 3, 2026, Bella hard-launched new boyfriend Ashton on TikTok: “I got me a new boy… AND he’s old enough to drive!” Fans immediately asked: has Ashton met Wes? That part is unconfirmed — and until she answers, her mom’s rule hangs over every happy selfie.

No. 3 — The Custody Fight Over Little Attalie: Myrka and Ethan

Myrka Cantu and Ethan Ybarra started as high school sweethearts: cheerleader and football player. Then came daughter Attalie, and the fairytale cracked open. By 2021 the breakup was confirmed, and a custody fight dragged on for years. Reports say the pair eventually reached a custody agreement in 2023. Myrka has since married Juan and built a family of six, according to reports. It ranks third because it never exploded in court like the top two.

No. 2 — “I’m Gonna Withhold the Children Again”: McKayla and Caelan

No Unexpected feud ever sounded uglier on camera than McKayla Adkins versus Caelan Morrison. Timothy arrived in 2017, Gracelynn in January 2019, and by her first birthday the parents were breaking up and reuniting on the same day. The fight that started it all? Who would pay $480 for the DNA test the court needed. The low point came in a 2019 sneak peek, when a pregnant McKayla told Caelan, on camera, “Yes, I’m gonna withhold the children again.” Then came a reported physical altercation with McKayla’s grandfather Tim, police, and a temporary restraining order. Courts eventually awarded Caelan weekend visitation. But no other feud here put a baby’s visits on the table so bluntly.

No. 1 — The Grandfather Who Sued for Custody and Won

Nothing else here rewrote a child’s life the way Hunter Johnson’s dad did. In April 2026, he reportedly sued for full custody of his grandson Wes — the baby Bella gave birth to in March 2025, when she was 15 and Hunter was 13. He won. Hunter’s time with Bella was restricted from then on: no overnights, no unsupervised visits. One side says a grandfather protected a baby when two children could not. The other says a court order turned a teen dad into a visitor in his own son’s life. Engaged in May, split, reunited, split again — but Wes still lives under a judge’s rules. That is why it takes the crown: the only feud here a court had to settle.

Five feuds, one pattern: the babies never started them. Are you TEAM GRANDPARENTS, who say the adults had to step in — or TEAM YOUNG PARENTS, who say no court order should decide who raises Wes, Timmy, or Attalie?
