On February 16, 2026, 15-year-old Bella Vaughn introduced America to her 13-year-old boyfriend Hunter Johnson — and their baby son. Nine years after Unexpected first aired, the show had its youngest couple ever.
The story in eight dates — from three teen moms in 2017 to a casting call that says the show is not done yet.
2017: Three Teen Moms and a Brand-New Kind of TLC Show
Unexpected premiered in late 2017 with Lilly Bennett, Lexus Scheller and McKayla Adkins — three teenagers facing pregnancy while the cameras rolled. No makeover, no competition, no prize. Lilly is still with Lawrence Bishop today; the two married in 2023, and their son LJ was born in November 2020. McKayla is now a mom of three.
December 2020: Season 4 Brings Jenna and Myrka

Season 4 premiered on December 20, 2020. Jenna Ronan arrived with baby Luca and boyfriend Aden Albright; Myrka Cantu arrived after her mom kicked her out for getting pregnant. Jenna’s story stretched across three seasons — Aden, then JJ Della, then a second baby. Myrka is now married with four kids.
March 2022: Season 5 Returns With Three Familiar Faces
Season 5 premiered on March 6, 2022, with Tyra Boisseau, Lilly and Jenna returning and two new moms, Kylen and Emersyn, joining them. Fifteen episodes of shoestring weddings, grandparent fights and second babies. By the wrap, new couples, new splits, same question: who would actually stay together?
June 2024: Season 6 Returns After Nearly Two Years Away

After nearly two years away, Unexpected returned on June 3, 2024, with five couples — Jenna and JJ, Lilly and Lawrence, Aniyah and Dakwon, Emalee and Nate, and Kayleigh and Graham. Emalee and Nate married in May 2024, with a baby girl due in February. The season closed without a tell-all, and in October 2026 Jenna called the show “80% done.” Nobody at TLC confirmed it — and then Season 7 happened anyway.

Season 7 premiered on February 16, 2026, with four brand-new couples and eight teens aged 13 to 18. Bella and Hunter were the lightning rod: 15 and 13, with a son, Wes, born in March 2025. The premiere opened with Amya’s 23-hour labor and Isabella pressing Bryce to find a job. The finale aired in early May — and by then, every couple had started falling apart.
May to July 2026: The Summer It All Fell Apart
In early May 2026, Bella announced her engagement to Hunter: “the best thing about my left hand… is a ring on it from the right man.” But her engagement to Hunter lasted only a few weeks. On June 1, Bella said Hunter had “lied to her and hurt her feelings,” and a brief reunion fizzled in July. Hunter was then linked to Ambria, and Falen laid down her rule: any new boy meets the family before he meets Wes.
October and November 2026: Heartbreak, a New Boyfriend and a Plea
On October 23, Isabella Leal-Stone announced she had lost her second pregnancy — the baby she called “baby bean,” due April 25. Eleven days later, Bella hard-launched her new boyfriend Ashton on TikTok: “There’s so many reasons to be happy, but you’re definitely my favorite one.” She bragged she had “a new boy… AND he’s old enough to drive!” Then on November 5, Falen pleaded no contest in court.
November 2026: Season 8 Casting Opens the Next Chapter
Season 8 is already being cast. Back in April 2026, Parade reported TLC had renewed Unexpected for an eighth season despite the controversy — and now the network wants photos, ages, due dates and stories from hopefuls. No premiere date is confirmed. Nine years in, the show that started with three nervous teenagers is still finding new ones.
Bella has Ashton, Hunter has Ambria, Falen has a plea deal behind her and Isabella is grieving “baby bean” — so when Season 8 cameras roll, which Unexpected family are you rooting for: Team Bella, Team Falen, or Team Isabella and Bryce?
