Unexpected Season 8 Is Already Being Cast — While Season 7 Falls Apart

“Unexpected is casting for season 8!!” That is how show alum Jenna Ronan announced it on Instagram in April 2026, telling would-be teen parents to DM @aintthatsomethingentertainment to apply. Seven months later, that casting call has turned into a race: the next season is being built while the last cast scatters in every direction. The show survived its loudest cancellation campaign, but now the question is who will be left to star in it.

April: The Casting Call That Answered the Cancellation Crowd

In April 2026, Jenna Ronan shared the casting call on Instagram: producers wanted teen parents aged 14 to 17 expecting a baby between September and November 2026, according to reports. Applicants sent a recent photo, their age, their due date and a brief summary of their story.

The timing was no accident. Weeks earlier, a Season 7 preview clip had gone viral, showing 15-year-old Bella Vaughn telling her mother she and 13-year-old Hunter Johnson had sex four days after giving birth to their son. Fans demanded the show be pulled. “This show should already be cancelled,” one wrote.

The casting call was TLC’s answer: the show was coming back. According to reports, TLC has renewed Unexpected for Season 8, though no premiere date is confirmed.

The months since have been a stampede for the exits. Bella Vaughn, the breakout star of Season 7, calls her time on the show “a horrible experience” and will not return for Season 8 even if asked. On November 3, she hard-launched a new boyfriend, Ashton, on TikTok. Two days later, her mother Falen’s no-contest plea on November 5 closed the wildest week in the show’s history.

Amya and Jose, the only Season 7 couple who split, have gone separate ways. Amya says she has her confidence back and is dating her girlfriend Jahnay, while Jose has stepped away from social media to focus on their son Sammy. Hunter Johnson, according to reports, has moved on with a new girlfriend of his own.

The Two Couples Fans Want Back

The fandom keeps coming back to the same two names. Mia Quebedeaux and Jessie Kistler survived the year no other couple could: a house fire on January 25, 2026 destroyed the home Mia shared with Jessie, baby Oakleigh and her dad Keith. Four months later, Jessie proposed in New Orleans, having asked Keith’s permission first. Their road from a house fire to a New Orleans proposal is Season 7’s closest thing to a fairy tale.

Isabella Leal-Stone and Bryce Palmer carry the other storyline fans cannot let go of. Broken up when Haisley was born in May 2025, they reconciled, got engaged in February 2026, and announced a second pregnancy that August. Then came Isabella and Bryce’s devastating loss: an October emergency room visit, no fetal heartbeat, and a farewell to the baby they called “baby bean,” due April 25.

Neither couple has confirmed a return, but if TLC wants a season with a heartbeat, these are the two calls to make.

New Faces, Old Faces, or Both

The call sought teens expecting babies between September and November 2026, and that window has now closed. The new faces of Season 8 are, in all likelihood, already chosen. What TLC has not said is whether any familiar faces will join them.

Mia and Jessie would give the season its steadiest anchor. Isabella and Bryce would give it its rawest story. Going all-new would give it a clean slate.

Season 8 is coming. The only thing left to decide is whose story it tells. If you were casting Season 8, which Season 7 couple would you bring back first, Mia and Jessie or Isabella and Bryce, and which one should TLC leave in the past for good?
