Who Paid the Highest Price to Leave Kody? Ranking Christine, Janelle and Meri’s Goodbyes — Fans Won’t Agree

Tomorrow night, Christine, Janelle and Meri will sit at the same table and melt down their wedding rings together. But getting to that table did not cost each woman the same thing. Not even close.

One of them walked out first, with no roadmap and the whole family watching. One left quietly and rebuilt in private. And one stayed — for years — in a marriage that had already ended in everything but name. So tonight, we are settling the debate the only way a Sister Wives debate can be settled: by ranking them, and letting the comments decide whether we got it right.

No. 3: Janelle — The Quiet Exit

Janelle Brown confirmed her separation from Kody in December 2022, and in many ways hers was the cleanest break of the three. No explosive tell-all moment, no dramatic final confrontation played out over a season. She simply stopped — and started over.

That does not mean it was easy. Janelle had spent nearly three decades in a plural marriage, with six children and deep financial ties to the family. And in the years since, she has carried a grief no ranking can measure, losing her son Garrison in March 2024. Her reinvention since — new routines, and, according to reports, a new relationship with Pete, introduced publicly in August 2026 — has been the slowest burn of the three. Quiet does not mean painless.

No. 2: Christine — The First One Out the Door

Christine Brown Woolley announced her split from Kody in November 2021, and being first changed everything. Before Christine, leaving was unthinkable on camera. After her, it was possible. She took the hit that made the other two exits imaginable — Kody’s anger, the family’s shock, and a season’s worth of viewers picking sides.

She also had the most to prove afterwards. Christine built a whole new life in public — relocating, dating again, and marrying David Woolley in October 2023. Her reward for going first was a happy ending that arrived faster than anyone else’s. But the price was that she walked out alone, with no one ahead of her to show it could be done.

No. 1: Meri — The Longest Goodbye

And then there is Meri. Married to Kody since 1990, she was his first and only legal wife — until 2014, when she legally divorced him so he could marry Robyn and adopt Robyn’s children. The romance, by most accounts, had been gone for years. Christine left in 2021. Janelle left in 2022. Meri did not announce her separation until January 2023.

That is the argument for putting Meri at No. 1: she did not have one hard goodbye. She had years of them, stretched across a marriage that existed mostly in name. Leaving quickly is brave. Staying for years in something that hurts — hoping it changes — and then finally walking away anyway? Fans who rank Meri first say that is the hardest goodbye of all, because it cost her the most time.

Why Fans Will Never Agree on This Ranking

Here is why this debate never ends: everyone is measuring something different. Team Christine measures courage — she went first, when it cost the most. Team Janelle measures dignity — she left without a war and rebuilt without an audience. Team Meri measures endurance — she paid the longest, loneliest price before she finally chose herself.

So, settle it: who really paid the highest price to leave Kody — Christine, who went first; Janelle, who went quiet; or Meri, who stayed longest? Pick your side, and defend it in the comments. No fence-sitting allowed.
