According to a new Us Weekly report, Meri Brown has revealed that her ex-husband Kody Brown bought her a “divorce ring” — and that it is bigger than her wedding ring ever was. The fandom split straight down the middle: one half sees a woman turning the ending into a trophy, the other sees a woman who still cannot quite let the marriage go.

What We Actually Know About Meri’s Rings

Meri and Kody married in 1990. In 2014, Meri legally divorced Kody so he could legally marry Robyn Brown and adopt her children. They stayed spiritually married until January 2023, when they announced they had permanently ended their marriage.

The ring saga did not start with a divorce ring. It started with a melted one. During the Season 18 tell-all, Christine Brown revealed that Kody had melted down the wedding ring Meri gave him at their 1990 wedding, keeping the gold and diamonds — because, according to Christine, he did not want Meri to have “control” or “power” over him anymore. Meri later confirmed the story and called it a “very, very painful situation.” Some of the melted gold became jewelry for their children, and the rest became a necklace Kody made for her after she repeatedly asked. In Season 21, the story came full circle when Meri joined Christine and Janelle in melting down jewelry from their shared ex-husband, a ritual Meri described as saying goodbye to the past.

The “divorce ring” detail itself comes from the new Us Weekly report, whose full text has not been independently verified at the time of writing. What is not in doubt is the history it lands on: for Meri, rings have never just been jewelry. They have been the receipts.

Team Full Stop: “She Turned the Ending Into a Trophy”

For one camp, the size of the ring is the whole point. Meri spent years as the wife who waited — waited for Kody to say the words, waited for the marriage to heal or end, waited while the family reorganized itself around Robyn. A divorce ring bigger than the wedding ring, in this reading, rewrites the proportions of her own story: the marriage got small, so the monument to leaving it got big. It fits the Meri viewers have watched in Season 21: a formal religious release, a renovated inn, and dating on her own terms. The ring, Team Full Stop argues, is about a woman who finally gets to choose the symbol.

Team Still Stuck: “Why Is the Ex Still Buying the Jewelry?”

The other camp reads the same ring and sees the opposite problem. If Meri is truly free, they ask, why is the milestone still measured against something Kody bought? A wedding ring is a promise from a husband. A divorce ring bought by the same husband is, in this reading, still a gift from the man she left — just with the occasion changed. Every time Meri’s new chapter gets framed as “bigger than what Kody gave her,” Kody remains the yardstick. Team Still Stuck argues that real closure would need no ring, no comparison, and no ex-husband in the sentence.

The Twist That Makes Both Sides Right

Here is why this debate will not settle: both readings are true at once. Kody melted a symbol of commitment without telling her. Years later, the same gold came back as a necklace she had to nag him to make. Now, according to reports, a divorce ring arrives bigger than the wedding ring that started it all. A bigger divorce ring can be a trophy and a tell in the same breath: proof she survived the marriage, and proof the marriage still sets the terms of the conversation.

So, where do you land? Is a divorce ring bigger than your wedding ring the ultimate full stop — or proof that the old marriage is still writing the story? If your ex bought you a bigger ring after the divorce, would you wear it, melt it, or sell it? Tell us in the comments.
