Every Mama’s Boy Mom Ranked: From the DNA Test to the Mom Who Let Go

99.99 percent. That is how certain the paternity test said Roberto Hernandez was the father of his own baby girl — and his mother Nancy still asked why it could not be 100 percent. Four seasons, nine mothers: who is the most controlling mom on I Love a Mama’s Boy? Season 5 is still unconfirmed, per reports.

Nancy and Laila: The Untouchables

Nancy Hernandez — the DNA test that changed nothing. (The List / TLC)

No. 1 — Nancy Hernandez. The DNA test: Nancy convinced her own son to demand a paternity test on Kimi, then shrugged at 99.99 percent. Kristy’s reply — “Who is she that I have to prove to her?” — and the walkout that followed is the show’s most quoted scene. Per reports, the couple later distanced themselves. No other mom put a question mark on her own granddaughter.

No. 2 — Laila. Three seasons against Emily Chu: the show’s longest war — spoon-fed breakfasts, fainting spells at every mention of moving out, “Momma gonna die.” When Shekeb shared a plan to move out with Emily, Laila kicked Emily out — and by the Season 3 finale he had moved back in with his mom. Per reports, they have since split for good. Nancy wins on a single act; Laila wins on endurance.

Kelly: The Controller Who Let Go

No. 3 — Kelly McAdams. In Season 1, Kelly would have topped this list: couch cuddles, sleepy-time tea, pedicures, burial plots picked out on a birthday outing, a “smell test” for every girlfriend. Then a Season 4 sleep apnea diagnosis — and, per reports, a changed Kelly. Now she smiles beside Matt and Devon as Matt posts that “mom’s ready for the ride.” She drops to No. 3 for one reason: she actually let go.

Tina, Liz, Annette: Weddings and One House

No. 4 — Tina. Twelve years. That is how long Janelle McAloon shared her husband Josh — house, holidays, decisions — with his mother Tina, a man who has never lived apart from her. When the couple planned a Florida move, Tina blocked it at every turn. Then the kitchen showdown: “What’s yours is mine,” Tina declared. “You are not his wife!” Janelle fired back. “I’m his mother! I came first.” Janelle’s answer was a purchase: a Florida house with no room for Tina.

No. 5 — Liz. Season 1’s original wedding war: Liz turned Mike and Stephanie’s wedding into a battleground — the triangle that taught the show its formula. Per The List, the two have grown closer since — but at her peak, Liz set the template.

No. 6 — Annette. Jason’s mom took over his wedding to Justina, and the dress fight produced the season’s most quoted line: “That’s not very fair. But she gets to wear whatever she wants.” Jason and Justina are still together, still engaged, parents to a baby girl — still without a public wedding photo.

The Quiet End

No. 7 — Lori. Season 4’s newest wedding hijacker: Lori took over her future daughter-in-law Tash’s bridal gown appointment, turning a fitting into a takeover.

No. 8 — Dia. Shahid’s mom judged his girlfriend Nylah on a first impression, questioning her intentions toward his money, once hijacked a date over a toothache, and capped Shahid’s ring budget at $25.

No. 9 — Shirlene. The most chill mom on the ladder: she never hid her disapproval of Austin’s ex Kristopher, told Austin she had had enough of Kris, and contemplated a move back to Los Angeles that would force her son to choose. Contemplated is the key word.

The ladder stands: Nancy’s DNA test at the top, Shirlene’s unplayed veto at the bottom, Kelly in the middle as proof a mom can climb down. Nancy’s DNA test or Laila’s three-season war — which mom earned the crown? Pick your side: Team Nancy, Team Laila, or Team Reformed Kelly.
