One poolside chat. Two completely opposite stories. Ahead of episode 5, Kara Bass confronted Emma Perry and Jamal Menzies after Josh “JT” Thompson told her Emma had been gossiping about Kara’s friendship with Jamal. Emma fired back that JT was the one who raised it. Somebody is not telling the truth — and Kara has already made clear she has no patience for anyone who lies about women.
His Version: Emma Pulled Him Aside at the Pool
According to TV Insider, JT’s account starts at a group date, right after Chloe Fabiano said she was putting distance between herself and Emma. JT says Emma pulled him aside at the pool and asked him point-blank how he felt about Kara spending so much time in Jamal’s room at two or three in the morning. In his telling, Emma was stirring the pot — and he was simply passing along what he heard.
If JT is telling the truth, he did what a new partner should do: he told Kara what was said about her behind her back. The problem is that the messenger is now the suspect.
Her Version: JT Brought It Up First
Emma’s version flips the whole scene around. TV Insider reports that when Kara confronted her, Emma insisted it was JT who brought up the late-night Kara-Jamal chats, not her. In other words, Emma says JT was the gossip — and then blamed her for it.
If Emma is telling the truth, JT did worse than gossip: he used another woman’s name to score points with Kara, then left Emma to take the fall — while Emma was already on the defensive after Chloe distanced herself from her.

To judge JT fairly, fans need the full picture. The 27-year-old is a former Division I wide receiver for the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks, now in Fort Lauderdale after studying in Nacogdoches, Texas, from 2017 to 2022. Born in Tampa and raised in part in Garland, Texas, he has more than 60,000 Instagram followers — where, according to TV Insider, he is openly looking for his “passenger princess.”

On one of their few dates, after Kara revealed she makes suggestive content — a moment that gave him pause — JT opened up about a hard childhood: his mother struggled, the family was at times homeless and lived in a car, and he grew emotional about having no father. That honesty is why some fans want to believe him now.
But the age gap still shadows this connection. Kara, 33, was surprised by JT’s age in episode 1, and her ex-husband Guillermo Rojer is the same age as JT — which already made her question his maturity. A man accused of twisting a poolside chat is not answering that question well.
So, Fans — Team JT, Team Emma, or Team Neither?
There is no neutral corner here. Either JT told Kara the truth about Emma, or Emma told Kara the truth about JT. One of them walked away from that pool and rewrote what happened — and Kara, only a few dates in with JT, must decide if this is a red flag or a misunderstanding.
Then there is the third option fans keep raising: newcomer Skyler Beale, who comes with none of this baggage. If neither JT nor Emma can be trusted to tell it straight, why should Kara spend another week untangling their mess instead of walking toward the connection that has not started with a lie?
