5 Derrico Myths Fans Still Believe — And the Truth Behind Each One

5 Derrico Myths Fans Still Believe — And the Truth Behind Each One

Fans repeat them so often in comment sections that they start to feel like facts. The show is dead. Karen vanished. The kids are still babies. The family is rolling in TV money. With cameras reportedly rolling again, it is time to separate the myths from the real Derrico story.

Myth 1: The Show Was Cancelled for Good

Doubling Down With the Derricos ran for five seasons on TLC, ending in 2024, and Deon later confirmed there would be no Season 6 on the network. That sounds final — but the family then declared themselves “free agents.” According to reports from a fan exchange on Instagram this past week, Deon told a follower: “we are filming right now for our new season,” with a premiere targeted for next year. No network or date is confirmed yet, and filming is not a premiere. Still, that is not the same as cancelled for good.

Myth 2: Karen Disappeared After the Divorce

When Deon and Karen finalized their divorce in June 2024 after 19 years of marriage, some fans assumed the mom of 14 had stepped out of the picture. She has not. According to reports, Karen now works as a substitute teacher while Deon drives a school bus. Court filings reported in the press also show she has been fighting for contact with her children. Karen pleaded not guilty after her June 2026 Las Vegas arrest and is presumed innocent.

Myth 3: The Kids Are Still Little

The show started in 2020, and children grow up off camera. Eldest daughter Darian, born in December 2005, is now an adult in her early twenties. Derrick is 16, twins Dallas and Denver are 15, and the quintuplets — Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Daiten — are 13. Even the “littles” are not so little: Diez and Dior are 9, and triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver are 7. A 2027 season would be about teenagers, not toddlers.

Myth 4: Reality TV Made Them Rich

Not quite. The family has a long, publicly reported history of financial strain, including past bankruptcies, and reports this year said their Las Vegas home went to auction in September with no bids. That is why the school jobs matter: a school bus driver and a substitute teacher are not the careers of a family living off TV riches. The real Derrico story has always been about stretching a budget across 14 kids, not luxury.

Myth 5: The 14 Kids Are the Whole Family

Ask a casual viewer to name the Derricos and you will get Deon, Karen, and 14 kids. But the family tree is bigger than the cast list. Parade has noted that Deon and Karen also have an adopted son, Derron, who is not featured on the show. Then there is Marian “GG” Derrico, Deon’s mother and grandmother to all 14. And there is Carter, the triplet brother of Diez and Dior, who died shortly after birth in 2017 and whom the family still honors. Fourteen kids made the show; the full family is larger than any episode could hold.

So here is the real story: divorced parents working school jobs, 14 kids growing up fast, a grandmother holding the center, and cameras reportedly rolling on something new — with no network or date to prove it yet. Which myth did you believe the longest? Pick a side in the comments — Team “I Believed Them All” or Team “I Knew Better” — and tell us which truth surprised you most.
