Ysabel Brown was lying in a New Jersey hospital bed in 2020, facing 12-hour spinal fusion surgery, when her father told her, right in front of her face, that he could not stay. “I can’t leave my family that long,” Kody Brown said — and his teenage daughter answered with the sentence that now reads like the beginning of the end: “I thought we were family.”
That moment, retold by Christine on Sunday’s November 1 episode, is where her story turns.
Twelve Hours in Surgery, and a Bedroom Door That Closed
“That was the biggest [thing],” Christine told Meri Brown in the episode. “I was like, I can’t be married to this guy anymore.” Ysabel, diagnosed with scoliosis in 2017, faced the surgery after years of appointments. Kody’s refusal to travel for it was the line that could not be uncrossed.
Christine also recalled the night she kicked Kody out of her bedroom for good. “He wasn’t attracted to me. He wasn’t interested,” she said. When he came upstairs to sleep there, she stopped him: “Your bed’s not here. You have to leave.” Her verdict: “The only person allowed in there is me, because I actually wanna be with me.”
The Wife at the Bottom of the Picture
For years, Christine was the wife fans called the most overlooked in the plural family — the peacemaker who kept the household running while attention went elsewhere. Season 21 gave that feeling its sharpest image: when Meri and Janelle suggested recreating an old family portrait, Christine refused: the original had placed her at the bottom, beneath the family’s power structure, in a spot that felt symbolic of her whole marriage.
She was also the first to walk. In November 2021, after 25 years and six children with Kody, Christine announced she was leaving — before Janelle, before Meri. “I didn’t know I had to leave until I knew it was time to go, and then I left,” she told Meri. The other two wives followed within two years.

Christine moved back to Utah and, in 2022, met David Woolley through a matchmaker. On Valentine’s Day 2023 she introduced him with the line fans still quote: “I finally found the love of my life, David.” Two months later they were engaged. On October 7, 2023, before roughly 330 guests in Moab, Utah, they married outdoors in a ceremony Christine called a fairytale.
David brought his own full life: a Utah drywall businessman, a widower whose first wife Margaret died in 2012, and a father of eight. With Christine’s six children, their blended family counts 14 kids. In November 2024 the couple bought a new home together, in a life built on her own terms.
Three Years On, a Motorcycle She Chose to Ride

The Christine viewers see in Season 21 is not a woman looking back. In a September 28 post she reflected on years under stress she had not even recognized. Her newest challenge says how far she has come: learning to ride a motorcycle with David, bald and tattooed, two boxes on her longtime partner wish list. The motorcycle, she says, is the frightening one, and she is doing it anyway.
That is the arc: the wife who once stood at the bottom of the family picture now stands at the front of her own life, with a marriage, a home, and a hobby she chose, and a husband who, in her words, “wants me to be me.”
Christine walked first and furthest — from a New Jersey hospital corridor to a Moab altar. So here is the split: did Christine get the happiest ending because she was brave enough to leave first, or simply because David is the partner Kody never was? Pick a side: Team Left First, or Team Right Man?
