One smiling blonde woman. Five short hairstyles. And a fan group that cannot agree on a winner. A five-panel collage posted in a Sister Wives fan group on October 22 has pulled in nearly 200 comments, and the question is deliciously simple: pick 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 — which hairstyle looks best on her?
The face in the collage is one reality fans recognize instantly: Kate Gosselin, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star whose short cuts defined a whole era of TLC. Her hair has been argued about for nearly twenty years, which is exactly why a simple vote like this explodes. Everybody already has an opinion. They just never had a number to attach it to.
The Five Looks, Side by Side
Here is the lineup fans are voting on. Number 1 is the textured pixie, soft and piecey, the kind of cut that looks effortless because it is. Number 2 is the side-swept bob, sleek in front with that long fringe falling across the forehead — the signature shape that made her famous. Number 3 is the wavy shoulder-length cut, looser and lighter, the one that reads most like a regular Saturday. Number 4 is the very short spiky pixie, bold and unapologetic, the shortest of the five. Number 5 is the long blonde, straight and simple, proof she can do the opposite of everything above and still look like herself.
Five cuts, one woman, and no wrong answer — which is precisely why the comments keep coming. Voting costs nothing, but defending your number in front of hundreds of strangers costs a little pride, and fans are happily paying it.
Why Fans Keep Voting 2 and 3

Scroll the thread and a pattern jumps out. Most voters land on combinations of 1, 2 and 3, while 4 and 5 get far less love. Style 2 keeps getting called the one that looks younger and easiest to live with, and style 3 wins the voters who want softness over sharpness. The spikiest cut, number 4, splits the room: some fans call it fearless, others say it is the one era they would happily leave behind.
That split is the whole game. The bob voters are voting for the icon. The wavy voters are voting for the woman they would actually want to have coffee with. And the pixie defenders are voting for nerve. Nobody is really voting on hair. They are voting on which version of Kate they liked best.

It is worth remembering how this hair became famous in the first place. When Kate and her then-husband welcomed six children in rapid succession in 2004, she wore a shaggy, brunette bob with feathered bangs. By 2009 she was blond with side-swept bangs, and her sleek, spiky pixie became one of reality television’s most memorable looks — so memorable that it later got tangled up with the “Karen” meme, complete with a Halloween wig version, and so recognizable that Us Weekly once photoshopped it onto the heads of celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna.
Kate herself always said the cut was practical, not fashionable. It was, in her words, a way to avoid having all-day bed head when her focus was on eight kids, all of whom were 5 years old and younger. “I got up and it looked the same as when I went to sleep!” she explained. She also warned imitators that it would not work for everyone: “I have very, very thick hair, so it’s not going to work for everybody.” By the end of 2021, softer versions of the look — the “bixie” — were making a comeback, and at 51, Kate still wears a short layered cut with face-framing pieces, keeping a lower profile built around family posts rather than red carpets.
So — 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?
That history is why this vote refuses to die. Every number is a different decade of the same woman’s life, and every voter is really answering a different question: do you love the icon, the mom, the risk-taker, or the reinvention? So settle it. Drop your number in the comments — 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 — and defend it. Which hairstyle looks best on her, and which one would you never let her wear again?
