Tammy Slaton once said she was too big to do anything. At 725 pounds, she used a wheelchair and oxygen and needed help with everyday tasks. Now, in Season 9 of 1000-LB Sisters, she has lost more than 500 pounds — and her life looks nothing like it used to.
This is not about a number on a scale. It is about a woman getting her life back, one first at a time:
First Up: Riding a Horse for the Very First Time

For most people, riding a horse is a childhood memory. For Tammy, it was a goal her weight had always put out of reach — until this season, when she climbed the steps and took a ride alongside Andrea. Nervous, she joked about how she would ever get back down. Fans cheered her on: “Way to face your fears and keep going!” A small ride — and her first ever on a horse.
Her Birthday Go-Kart Ride Felt Like Mario Kart
On her birthday, Tammy faced another first: squeezing into a go-kart. She worried the kart would be too low to get in and out of, and doubted she had the strength to push herself in. Her sister Misty asked brother Chris Combs, “Do you remember when we wouldn’t really fit in these?” Tammy made it in, Andrea drove, and the pair tore around the track. “I feel like Mario Kart!” Tammy exclaimed.
Flying on a Plane — and Fitting in a Single Seat
One of the earliest milestones was also the most emotional: getting on an airplane for the first time. According to reports, she had once been unable to travel by air at all. When she finally flew with her family, she fit in a single airplane seat — and did not need the two seats the family had paid for. For a woman who once felt like a prisoner in her own home, a plane ticket was freedom with a boarding pass.
Disney Rides and a Hot-Air Balloon Over the Park
With travel came theme parks. According to reports, Tammy got on rides at Disney World and floated up in a giant hot-air balloon at Disney Springs with Amy. “I value life now, where before I hated it,” she said. Fans who watched her spend seasons largely indoors now see her planning the next trip instead of dreading it.

Then came the moment that stopped fans mid-scroll: Tammy in a swimsuit. Season 9 showed her baring skin she once hid, swimming with her family on a lake trip. In an earlier season, she floated down a river in a tube that finally fit her newly slender frame. The confidence did not stop at the water: Tammy has volunteered at a local Humane Society and walked up a flight of stairs for a pedicure she was once promised if she ever made it to the top.
From a wheelchair to a horse, a go-kart, a plane seat, a theme park and a swimsuit — Tammy’s comeback is measured in firsts, not just pounds. So, fans: which comeback moment inspires you most — the horse, the go-kart, the first flight, the Disney rides, or the swimsuit? And what should be next on her bucket list? Sound off below.
