Two years after the Season 4 finale, with TLC still silent on Season 5 according to reports, I Love a Mama’s Boy fans have moved on to the harder question: which couples actually survived having a third person in the relationship?
Still Together: The Couples Who Beat the Mom Curse

The biggest surprise of 2026 belongs to Matt McAdams. After the Kim years and the Brittany cheating scandal, Matt looked like the show’s lost cause. Then Matt sat down for The Sarah Fraser Show podcast alongside Kelly and his girlfriend Devon, all three together, smiling. His caption said the rest: he and Devon were “so excited for the future” and “mom’s ready for the ride.”
Roberto Hernandez and Kristy are the more impressive survivors. Nancy convinced Roberto to demand a paternity test on his own daughter Kimi. It came back 99.99 percent his, and Nancy still reportedly asked why it could not be 100 percent. Kristy walked out asking, “Who is she that I have to prove to her?” and Roberto followed his wife out the door. According to reports, the couple later distanced themselves from Nancy and are still together. That walkout saved the marriage.
Jason and Justina round out the survivors: engaged, parents to a baby girl, and still together through Annette’s wedding-planning takeover. Mike and Stephanie are still together too, per a recent interview.
Split for Good: The Couples Mom Helped Break

Shekeb Sekander and Emily Chu are the show’s defining heartbreak. Three seasons Emily fought for a man who kept choosing his mother Laila over her: the spoon-fed breakfasts, the “Momma gonna die” shutdown every time moving out came up, the dinner party where Laila showed up with Yussra, the woman she was pushing on Shekeb. Emily asked for a $40,000 ring and got a $500 promise ring instead, with Laila hidden in the bushes to watch. Recent interviews confirm the couple is no longer together.
Tre Welch and Abbey England are the other confirmed split. With Tre’s mother Lorenda living directly behind the couple and walking into their home as if it were still hers, boundaries crumbled. When the breakup aired, Lorenda reportedly celebrated it on camera. Matt’s history belongs here too: Kim left for Austin when Matt refused to leave his mother, and only Devon stayed, after Kelly changed.

Moving out is the show’s real dividing line, and no couple proves it like Josh McAloon and Janelle. Josh has never lived apart from his mother Tina, not even after 12 years of marriage. When the couple bought a house in Florida, the floor plan did not include Tina: mom can visit, but she cannot move in. Tina answered, “I’m his mother! I came first.” According to reports, the marriage has survived. Josh never moved out. Janelle simply built a house mom could not follow him into.
Still Undecided: The Jury Is Out
Then there are the couples nobody can call yet. Season 4’s Shahid still could not buy a ring without his mother’s budget, and no public update has settled where his relationship stands. Austin and his ex-boyfriend Kristopher were trying to rekindle their romance under the gaze of Austin’s mother Shirlene, and no public update has confirmed who won that round.
So what is the pattern? Survivors chose their partner in public; splits are where mom kept winning the tiebreak.
