The Ex-Wives Just Confirmed the Robyn Theory Fans Suspected for Years

For years, Sister Wives fans have whispered the same theory in comment sections and Reddit threads: that Robyn Brown did not simply benefit from Meri Brown’s legal divorce from Kody Brown — she helped set it in motion. On Sunday night’s episode, the three ex-wives finally said it out loud.

In the November 1 episode of Sister Wives, Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown Woolley opened up like never before about the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Kody and Robyn’s relationship — and according to reports, what they revealed matched exactly what longtime viewers had suspected all along.

Christine’s Lehi Living Room Bombshell

Christine dropped the biggest revelation of the night. She said she believed Robyn “planted” the idea of Kody and Meri’s legal divorce back when the family lived in Lehi, Utah.

“I think it was kind of planted,” Christine revealed. “I remember specifically a couple of times we’d be in a conversation where Robyn mentioned it.”

She recalled sitting in Meri’s living room in Lehi before the family moved, listening as Robyn talked about “how beautiful it was that the first wife offered to get a legal divorce from her husband so he could legally marry another wife who was coming in with children, and then they legally adopted the children.”

Christine’s reaction at the time said everything: “‘What are you suggesting here? You think Meri should legally divorce Kody?’ I remember just thinking that. And then it happened, and then Meri’s like, ‘This is my idea. I’m coming up with this legal divorce.’ And I’m like, ‘No, you’re not.'”

Janelle: “There Was Way More Going On”

Janelle backed Christine up — and went further. “I think there was way more going on. Whether they were willing to admit it or not. I think they kind of were wanting to go in that direction.”

It was a striking admission from the wife who spent years as the family’s peacemaker, the one least likely to point fingers. Coming from Janelle, the words landed even harder with fans.

Meri: “It Worked Very Well in His Favor”

Then came Meri herself — the woman at the center of it all. Meri legally divorced Kody in 2014 so he could marry Robyn and adopt her children from a previous marriage, while Meri remained his spiritual wife for nearly another decade.

“I don’t know if they had a plan. If it wasn’t a plan, it worked very well in his favor,” Meri said. She added that she would have handled her own split differently if she had still been legally married to him: “I definitely would have done things differently when I divorced him had I been legally married to him still. I think he absolutely benefitted, so he can call himself lucky.”

Why Fans Feel Vindicated — And Why It Matters Now

The reaction online was swift — and, for many viewers, deeply satisfying. “Of course it was a plan!! They all knew it deep down,” one fan wrote. Another added: “He didn’t have to divorce Meri to adopt Robyn’s kids. He simply preferred that she be the legal wife and they manipulated it to be so.”

Others pointed out the timing: Kody and Robyn are no longer filming for Season 21, which, as one viewer put it, means the ex-wives can “finally talk openly about these issues.” After years of carefully chosen words, the three women who lived through it are telling their version — together, on camera, in the same episode where they melted down their old wedding rings.

To be clear, this is the ex-wives’ account of what happened, not a confession from Kody or Robyn. But for a fandom that has debated this exact question for a decade, hearing all three ex-wives land on the same side of it feels like a verdict.

So now the question goes to you: was the legal divorce a plan all along, or did three women simply connect the same dots years later? Team It Was a Plan — or Team Just a Coincidence?
