Tammy Slaton gets the headlines. Amy Slaton gets the music career and the chaos. But ask the 1000-LB Sisters fandom who holds the family together, and one name comes up again and again: big brother Chris Combs.

Chris was never supposed to be the star. He joined in Season 2 as the brother driving his sisters to doctor’s appointments. Six seasons later, fans call him the heart of the show — the brother who shows up while everyone else falls apart.

He Did the Work First — Then Showed His Sisters How

Chris did not just cheer from the sidelines. When viewers met him, he weighed over 450 pounds and worked in fast food, where he met his wife, Brittany.

His reason was devastatingly simple. “The main reason I want surgery is because my dad passed away at age 57,” Chris said on the show. “He was between 400-500 pounds. I am 41. I want to be around my family. They are my everything.”

After bariatric surgery in Season 3, Chris lost around 150 pounds, dropping to roughly 300 pounds — and he kept it off, even finishing his first 5K run. He just did the work, and his sisters watched.

The Hospital Hallway Brother

If there is a hospital waiting room in Slaton family history, Chris has sat in it. When Misty went in for bariatric surgery, Dr. Smith’s footage showed Chris beside her until she was wheeled in. He stood by Tammy at her wedding to Caleb Willingham in 2022 — and, heartbreakingly, at Caleb’s memorial after Caleb died in June 2023 at just 41.

When Amanda’s marriage ended and Amy’s divorce played out on camera, both sisters leaned on Chris — the one who answers the phone and stays until the worst part is over.

The Peacemaker in the Middle of Every Slaton Storm

Every family has a mediator, and in this family it is Chris. For years he has defused arguments between Amy and Tammy with the calm, practical word while tempers flare. Fans notice — one Instagram comment summed it up: “Every family needs a Chris for sure!”

His dry one-liners are the show’s pressure valve — never more so than in Amy’s makeover segment, when she roasted him with the viral line that she “cannot cover ugly,” and Chris just laughed.

Season 9’s Softest Storyline: Chris and Brittany’s Baby Dream

Season 9 has given Chris his gentlest storyline yet: trying for a baby with Brittany. The couple took fertility tests together, and Chris turned the appointment into comedy, joking “the swimmers be swimming” when his results came back good — then comforting Brittany when she panicked over her ovulation test.

It is the same partnership behind Brittany’s own transformation: nearly 70 pounds lost, from 236 to 166 pounds, and according to reports, her A1C fell from 10.4 percent to a normal 5.9 percent — diabetes-free. Chris cheered every step.

The Hero Work Nobody Films

Some of Chris’s best work happens off camera. In 2025, he teamed up with his friend Corby Jackson, a licensed therapist, and Pop Recovery Systems to launch a “men’s room” — a safe space for men to talk about weight loss, pride, and mental health. After losing all that weight, Chris has said, he had nobody to talk to about what it did to his head — so he built the room he wished he had.

So here is the question that splits the fandom: is Chris Combs the true MVP of 1000-LB Sisters — or just the best supporting player on television? Tell us in the comments: which Chris moment made you a fan for life?
