Put the Phones Down! The Busbys’ Screen Rule Has Fans Picking Sides

In a house with six daughters and more devices than anyone can count, Adam and Danielle Busby have drawn a line fans cannot stop arguing about: put the screens down and go outside.

The rule came roaring back in the latest stretch of the couple’s More Than Reality podcast. According to the show notes for episode 105, which aired on October 22, 2026, the Busbys talked about why they are still making their kids put down the screens and go outside — alongside fall break travel plans and eldest daughter Blayke’s newfound love of reading. The fandom is split straight down the middle.

No new ban, no dramatic announcement — just a couple doubling down on an old rule.

The Rule That Started the Debate

The Busbys’ screen rule was never about one device. As fans understand it from the podcast and the show, screens have a place, but not the whole day. Work, reading, and play come first.

That is why episode 105 landed the way it did. The episode is mostly about artificial intelligence, but the practical part is what parents latched onto. According to the episode description, Adam and Danielle discussed how they set technology boundaries for their six daughters and why they still insist the girls go outside. With the quints now in a sixth-grade homeschool co-op, that boundary matters more than ever.

Blayke Found Reading Instead

If the screen rule has a poster child this fall, it is Blayke. The 15-year-old has found a new love of reading, according to the episode 105 notes. A teenager who reads for fun is, to Team Screens Down, living proof that the rule works.

It is also a full-circle moment. Viewers watched Danielle sit with Ava and practice reading years ago, in a tender show moment about learning struggles that ET shared as a clip. Reading was never just schoolwork in this house. Now the eldest is choosing books on her own.

Outside Is the New Screen Time

Ask longtime fans what the Busbys do instead of screens, and the list writes itself. Danielle has talked in past interviews about keeping the girls learning and moving: STEM camp, screen-free coding toys, and days out at the Houston Zoo and the Children’s Museum of Houston.

That is the practical heart of the rule. It is not really “no screens ever.” It is “screens after real life.” A day at the beach, a walk, a game in the yard, a book on the porch — those come first, and the phone waits.

Why Fans Are Split Down the Middle

So why does a simple rule start arguments? Because every parent reading this knows the other side. Team Screens Down says the Busbys are right, and brave, for holding the line while the rest of the world hands kids a tablet at dinner.

Team Real Life says the rule sounds lovely until homework, group chats, and a teenager’s social life all live online. They argue that teaching kids to use screens wisely matters more than keeping screens away, and some fans speculate the real test is still coming, when the quints hit high school.

Both sides agree on one thing: only a family America watched grow up could turn “go outside” into a fandom-wide argument. The Busbys are not filming a new season right now, according to reports, and TLC has announced neither a renewal nor a cancellation. But in the podcast studio, on their own terms, they are still parenting out loud. So tell us honestly: are you Team Screens Down, or Team Screens Are Life?
