For months, Sister Wives fans have had one photo, one caption, and a thousand questions. In August, Janelle Brown introduced Pete with a selfie and a line that stopped the fandom mid-scroll: she was not looking, and she certainly was not expecting him. Now, in a People interview from 8 October, Janelle, 57, has told the story behind that post.

The Blind Date She Didn’t See Coming
Janelle did not go looking for love. According to People, she went out with a friend — and walked straight into a blind date she had not planned. She had not spoken to Pete beforehand or seen a photograph of him, and had no idea what he looked like at dinner. After 16 years in the public eye, her next chapter began with a friend, a dinner table, and a stranger.
He Didn’t Know Who She Was — and That Was the Point
The best detail might be the dinner-table moment. When Pete asked how everyone knew each other, Christine Brown answered, she told People, that they had been married to the same man — and Janelle leaned in: at the same time. Pete does not watch the show, and her friend had told him not to look her up. Janelle told People that was a gift: someone with no ready-made opinion of her. She calls Pete “just your average, nice guy” and “a good sport” — no ego, just someone who opens doors and shrugs at scrutiny with a calm “I’m not afraid.”
Long Distance, Sunday Date Days, and a Quarter-Mile Driveway
The romance did not start in the same state. Janelle told People their early relationship was all long distance: she in North Carolina, Pete in Las Vegas. They try not to go more than two or three weeks without seeing each other, taking turns travelling. The plan is for him to come east; the timeframe is still the question. Pete, a city kid from Long Island, asked how long her farm driveway was. A quarter of a mile, on dirt, she told him — then he drove it and weeded the flower beds with her. Janelle’s verdict says it all: that must be love. Sundays have since become their date day, from a winery in Arizona to Annapolis, Maryland.
“We’re Sort of Done With That Era”
That easy rhythm is a world away from the season now airing, which Janelle is filming without Kody and Robyn Brown. She told People she learned they were not returning by email, and when asked whether fans should expect them later in the season, her answer was blunt: “We’re sort of done with that era.” It reads less like a jab than a boundary around a new life in North Carolina — and a relationship that calms rather than complicates her. She told People that with Pete, her nervous system settles, and that he remembers what she says and asks about it later. Her friend laughed that this is baseline. For Janelle, it is brand new.

So, Fans — Which Team Are You On?
Here is where the fandom splits. Team “Pete is the one” says a kind, steady man who weeded a flower bed and travels across the country to see her is exactly what Janelle deserves. Team “protect Janelle, slow down” says love is wonderful — but they want her to guard her peace and let Pete prove himself over seasons, not selfies. So tell us: are you Team “Pete is the one,” or Team “protect Janelle, slow down”? What won you over — the blind date, the distance, or that quarter-mile dirt driveway?
