New to the Derricos? 5 Episodes to Watch Before the Comeback

Deon Derrico says the cameras are rolling again on his family of 16, but no network or return date has been confirmed, according to reports. That leaves new fans with a perfect problem: five seasons of Doubling Down With the Derricos to catch up on, and no idea where to start. Forget watching in order. These five episodes are the fastest way to understand why this Las Vegas family of 14 kids — quintuplets, triplets, and two sets of twins — became one of TLC’s most talked-about shows.

1. “Multiple Aftershocks” (Season 1)

Start here, because this is the episode where the show’s whole formula clicks. With Karen on bed rest in the hospital, Deon is left managing a household of 11 children on his own — schedules, meals, meltdowns and all. Then an earthquake shakes Las Vegas, and the family’s plan to carry the triplets to 32 weeks is thrown into chaos. It is funny, frantic and genuinely tense at the same time, and fan rankings put it at the very top of the series. If you only watch one early episode, make it this one.

2. “Home for the Holidays” (Season 1)

The emotional payoff to the first season’s long build-up. Two of the triplets finally make it home, and the house fills with the kind of joy only this family can generate at full volume. But underneath the celebration sits a date the whole family is dreading: Awesome Dawsyn’s heart surgery. The episode balances celebration and fear without ever feeling staged, and it explains why fans became so fiercely protective of this family. Bring tissues.

3. “Derrico Inferno” (Season 2)

Proof that the Derricos could turn even a pandemic Halloween into a party. With COVID-19 changing the rules, the family throws a sizzling ’70s dance-off at home instead of cancelling the fun. Running underneath the costumes is a real parental worry: Diez has his head shape examined by a doctor, and Karen and Deon plead for a non-surgical solution. It is the show in miniature — a dance party on the surface, a parents’ worry underneath.

4. “The Power of Prayer” (Season 3)

Every long-running family show has one episode that reveals its heart, and this is the Derricos’. With GG in the hospital, the family worries over her health while the kids band together to show her their love. Karen, meanwhile, holds in a secret that threatens to cause problems at home. It is the episode fans point to when they say this family is about more than multiples and matching outfits — it is about a grandmother holding a huge family together.

5. “Poppy, You’re Past Your Prime” (Season 3)

Finish your crash course with the funniest entry on this list. The family goes vegan for GG, Deon hits the roller rink to relive his glory days, and a potential move splits the household into camps. Just when it feels like pure fun, a health crisis brings everything crashing back down. It captures the show’s secret weapon: Deon Derrico, a dad who will embarrass himself on eight wheels for his family and call it a good day.
