Three years ago, Shauna Rae packed a bag, left her parents’ house on Long Island, and tried on a whole new life in Brooklyn. It was supposed to be the beginning of everything: her own place, her own rules, her own adulthood, finally, on camera. Then the cameras stopped — and fans have asked the same question ever since. Did the Brooklyn experiment actually change anything?

The Trial That Was Supposed to Change Everything

In the Season 2 finale, “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” Shauna and her younger sister Rylee moved to Brooklyn for a trial run of living on their own. The test was simple: could Shauna handle daily life away from mom Patty and stepdad Mark, her safety net since childhood?

The timing was no accident. Just one episode earlier, in “Shauna Takes the Wheel,” Shauna had taken her driver’s test using hand controls. Brooklyn was the next rung on the same ladder: first the license, then the keys to her own front door, even if only on trial.

Why Brooklyn Mattered More Than a New Address

For most 24-year-olds, moving out is a rite of passage. For Shauna, it was proof. At 3-foot-10 because childhood brain cancer treatment damaged her pituitary gland, she has spent her adult life being mistaken for a child — by strangers, by waiters, by the internet. Every milestone she hits in public is an argument against that assumption, and Brooklyn was the biggest one yet.

The trial also put her relationship with Rylee at the center of the story. Sisters sharing a place and splitting chores — that is the most ordinary adult experience in the world, and that was exactly the point. Shauna did not want a dramatic new life. She wanted a normal one, on her own terms.

Three Years Later, the Question Nobody Answered

Here is the honest part: TLC never showed us a permanent move, and Shauna has never announced one since. The show ran for two seasons, with its final episode airing on October 1, 2023, and the network has never officially canceled it or announced a Season 3. The Brooklyn trial is the last word we got on the subject — a beginning with no ending.

What we do know is that Shauna, now 27, has kept building her life in public on her own terms, growing her TikTok following past a million under @shaunarae99. She keeps her boyfriend’s face off the internet, explaining on the Unplanned Podcast in January 2025 that she worries about his job. Fans speculate endlessly about why the Brooklyn chapter never got a sequel, but speculation is all it is. Nobody outside Shauna’s circle actually knows.

Team Stay vs. Team Go: Where Fans Land

Ask the fandom today and you will get two camps, and neither one is backing down. Team Go says the trial proved Shauna was ready — the license, the sister setup, the confidence — and that staying put wasted the bravest thing she ever did on television. Team Stay says independence is not a zip code: a woman who drives herself, earns her own audience, and guards her own privacy is already living on her own terms, wherever she sleeps.

Both sides have a point, and that is why this episode refuses to die. Brooklyn was never really about Brooklyn. It was about whether the world would finally let Shauna Rae be the adult she has always been.

So now it is your turn. Team Go: she should have stayed in Brooklyn and never looked back. Team Stay: home was never the problem, and she proved her independence anyway. Which side are you on — and what is the one moment from the finale that proves it? Sound off in the comments.
