Seven Years, No Ring, Still at Home: Should Trent and Amber Push Jonah and Ashley to the Next Step?

Seven Years, No Ring, Still at Home: Should Trent and Amber Push Jonah and Ashley to the Next Step?

Seven years. That is how long Jonah Johnston and Ashley have been together — and in the Season 18 trailer, Trent Johnston says it out loud: seven years together, no progress toward marriage, no move toward moving in.

Season 18 premieres Tuesday, November 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TLC, and according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup’s October 31 trailer breakdown, tensions are rising between Trent and his eldest son Jonah, who is still living at home. With nine days to go, fans have already picked sides.

Seven Years Together — So Why Is Jonah Still Living at Home?

Jonah’s story is not one of standing still. Years after a Delta 8 health scare, he became a working car salesman with a Finance Manager Training certification, and Ashley was there through all of it — the couple even survived a breakup and got back together. So the question is not whether Jonah can commit. It is why two people who clearly can commit have not taken the next step. The picture gets more complicated when you see where each Johnston kid stands in 2026.

The parents’ worry is not coming out of nowhere. Liz married Brice Bolden in November 2025 and is already a mom of two. Alex hopes to get engaged to Allie Smith next year. Emma turns 21 this season and is openly looking for love. Jonah is the eldest — and the only one whose next chapter has no date on it.

Team Push: Trent and Amber Are Only Saying What Fans Have Said for Years

This side of the fandom sees tough love, not cruelty. Seven years is long enough to know, the argument goes, and parents who watched their son rebuild his life can ask what he is waiting for. Liz, Alex and Emma are all moving forward. From the parents’ chair, the question is not whether Jonah and Ashley love each other — it is whether love without a next step is a plan or a rut.

Team Back Off: Jonah and Ashley Don’t Owe Anyone a Timeline

The other side sees a couple graded on a schedule they never agreed to. Seven years includes a breakup, a rebuild, and a career built from scratch — and a ring is not a report card. Living at home while building a career is practical, not failure, and airing it on TV only adds pressure that helps nobody. Ashley is already family in every way that counts: Emma calls her her “bestie” and her “other sister.”

The Twist Nobody Mentions: Ashley Is Busy Matchmaking Someone Else

Here is the irony fans cannot stop talking about. While her own relationship sits under the microscope, Ashley — together with Allie — is reportedly playing matchmaker for Emma, who admitted in the trailer that she wants a boyfriend, seemingly with Joose, the family’s former exchange guest, who reportedly holds a flame for her. Ashley and Allie are already playing matchmaker, according to reports, and TLC has confirmed no couple — so Ashley is arranging someone else’s love life while her own is the season’s biggest question mark.

November 17 Won’t Settle This — and That’s Exactly Why Fans Will Watch

The trailer raises the question and answers none of it. The premiere will not hand either side a victory — it will put the argument on screen, in the family’s own words. The questions the trailer won’t answer are the ones fans will argue about all season.

So here it is, straight to the fandom: if you were at the Johnston dinner table, would you tell Jonah and Ashley it is time to take the next step — or tell Trent and Amber to let the couple set their own pace?
