Three rings. Three marriages. One fire.
On Sunday night, Meri, Janelle and Christine Brown gather around a bonfire on Sister Wives and burn jewelry from the marriages that shaped most of their adult lives. "Therapy by Fire" airs Sunday, November 8, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC — and the fandom has already split into two camps.
This is Season 21's first year without Kody and Robyn Brown, who will not be returning after 16 years of filming, according to TLC's September trailer. So the question hanging over Sunday is not really about jewelry. It is about what three women who once shared a husband do with the past.
First, the Fire: Should the Rings Burn at All?
Last Sunday set the fire up. Meri showed jeweler Brett two rings: her small wedding ring on a simple gold double band, and the much larger "divorce ring" Kody gave her when their marriage ended — a big yellow-orange stone Brett estimated at only around $200 to $300. Janelle was blunter: "It's cheap."
Team Burn It All says these rings are not heirlooms; they are receipts — burn them and stop carrying a marriage that already ended. Team Keep It answers that jewelry is the only physical record of decades these women lived. Melt it down, the way David Woolley suggested turning Kody's "sister witches" insult into matching pendants with diamond eyes. But burning it on camera is a moment you can never take back.
Meri’s San Francisco Detour: Tantra Yoga Speed Dating
While the fire burns, Meri heads to San Francisco for a tantra yoga speed-dating event — possibly, in Memorable TV's words, "the most out-there thing ever filmed for this franchise." Meri has been the most determined of the three to reinvent herself.

She stayed the longest, hoping Kody's talk of a "new beginning" meant something, and her spiritual marriage did not end until January 2023. Team Too Far, Too Fast worries she is performing her healing for the show instead of doing it — and that the franchise keeps asking Meri to try the hardest.

Christine and Janelle, Under the Stars: Can This Friendship Last?
The third thread is the quietest. Christine and Janelle go camping and talk frankly about polygamy, looking back on a lifestyle they spent decades inside. These two have laughed together on camera for years — and carried real tension too, from the old family photo Christine refused to recreate because it reminded her of feeling like the wife at the bottom of the hierarchy.
Team This Is Real says the camping trip is the whole point of Season 21: without Kody holding the family together — or holding it apart — Christine and Janelle are choosing each other. Team It Is Only Television is not convinced: these two spent years as sister wives, not best friends, and a fireside chat makes great television without proving a friendship survives once the season ends.
The Question Under All of It: Healing, or Television?

A ritual like this could feel staged — three women, one fire, a camera crew — and yet the history between them is complicated enough that the moment feels earned. Janelle learned Kody and Robyn were leaving by email. "I actually got an email that they weren't coming back, and I'm like, 'Oh, wow. Okay,'" she told PEOPLE. "I didn't care."
So before the episode airs, pick your side. Meri walks into the fire with the most to let go of — more than three decades with Kody, and a divorce ring worth $200 that somehow weighed more than the wedding ring ever did. If you were Meri, standing at that fire, would you toss your ring into the flames — or keep it?
