I Might Have Deleted It: Janelle Brown’s Email Reaction Has Sister Wives Fans Picking Sides

Janelle Brown did not cry, did not call, and did not chase an explanation. When she learned that Kody Brown and Robyn Brown were leaving Sister Wives, she got an email — and, by her own telling, she may have deleted it. That one detail has split the fandom clean down the middle: is Janelle ice-cold, or is she simply done?

The story comes from Janelle’s exclusive interview with PEOPLE, published November 2, and retold by TV Season & Spoilers on November 4. The facts are not in dispute. The feeling behind them is where fans are now fighting.

The Email That Ended an Era

“I actually got an email that they weren’t coming back, and I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. Okay,'” Janelle told PEOPLE. “I haven’t talked to them since, well, since we were all together after we sold the property [in season 20], and I don’t know anything about what’s going on in their lives. And so yeah, I’m like, ‘Okay, I guess this is what we’re doing now.'”

That is a remarkable sentence for a woman who spent nearly 30 years in a plural marriage with Kody. Janelle separated from him in December 2022, and the couple share six children. The September 14, 2026 Season 21 trailer had already revealed that Kody and Robyn would not return — but hearing it by email made the break feel final in a way no trailer could.

Janelle called it “the end of an era.” Then she added the line fans keep quoting: “There are so many beautiful things happening for all of us.” She said she hopes Kody and Robyn are doing well. She did not reach out to them.

“I Didn’t Care” — Cold, or Closure?

Asked whether she deleted the email, Janelle answered, “I might have. I didn’t care.”

Team Cold hears a woman shutting a door in someone’s face. After decades of shared birthdays, shared property and shared children, they argue, an email deserved at least a phone call — even if only for the kids. Team Closure hears something else entirely: a woman who has already done her grieving, in public, for years, and who refuses to perform one more round of it for an audience.

There is an important wrinkle the “cold” camp keeps skipping. In the Season 21 premiere, Janelle said she was “very shocked” and “flabbergasted, really” when she got the news. The calm came later. That is not the same as never caring — it is caring, and then choosing what to do with it.

What the Kids’ Reaction Really Says

Janelle said her children “were surprised” when she told them. Then came the sentence that stopped a lot of readers short: “But again, most of my children don’t really have a relationship with their father, so it was kind of just news really.”

That is the quiet heart of this story. For Janelle’s adult children, Kody and Robyn’s exit was not a family earthquake. It was a headline about people they barely speak to. Fans who defend Janelle point to exactly that: she is not being dramatic about a stranger’s career move, because in her children’s daily lives, that is closer to what it is.

Christine Brown said she did not know how to process it and called the exit “bizarre.” Meri Brown said she was surprised. Nobody, it seems, got a warm personal farewell.

Why Season 21 Still Has to Talk About Them

Janelle also explained why Kody and Robyn still come up in early Season 21 conversations between her, Christine and Meri. “We needed to make sure people understood why they weren’t there,” she said, adding that she thinks that emphasis “goes away as the season progresses.”

In other words, the show is still explaining an absence before it can enjoy a presence. That is the season’s strange bargain: three women building new lives — Janelle with her farm, her grandchildren and her new relationship — while still narrating the man who is no longer in the room.

So here is the question that has the comments divided. When Janelle said “I didn’t care,” was she slamming a door, or finally walking through one she had already opened years ago? Team Cold or Team Closure — which side are you on, and what would you have done with that email?
