Janelle Brown does not like bees. She has never pretended otherwise. And then, in Sister Wives Season 21, Episode 5, she walked straight toward a hive anyway, with her daughter Maddie beside her.
It was not the loudest scene of the night. The episode, “The Stench Of A Failed Marriage,” which aired Sunday, November 1, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC, also carried the ring melt. But Janelle’s scene was the quiet one — and that is why it stuck: she tried something that scared her, in public, at 57, with her daughter watching.
She Walked Toward the Bees, Not Away
According to the episode description, Janelle faced her fear of bees and tried beekeeping with Maddie. That is the whole scene on paper, and it is also the whole point. Beekeeping is slow, careful work: you cannot rush it, and if you panic, you get stung. For a woman who kept the waters calm by staying quiet, a hobby that rewards patience feels like a statement.
Line Dancing Was the First Fear She Beat
A week earlier, in the October 25 episode, Janelle went line dancing with a friend — and admitted on camera that her natural instinct is to hide, to stay home with her books and let the world go by without her. Secrecy shrank her world when she married Kody, she explained; only after the move to Las Vegas, where they could be open, did she start making friends again. Walking into a room of strangers to learn new steps was, for Janelle, real courage. As she put it afterward, “I need to remember how I felt walking up to the building and know that it paid off.”

A Blind Date She Never Saw Coming
The same willingness to be uncomfortable shows up in her love life. Janelle hard-launched her relationship with Pete on Instagram in August 2026, writing, “I wasn’t looking. I certainly wasn’t expecting you. And somehow, you turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed.” It really was a blind date: as she told People in October, she had not talked to Pete before they met for dinner, had not seen a picture of him, and did not know what he looked like. “He doesn’t have a huge ego. He’s not high maintenance. He loves me so much, and I feel cherished as well as loved,” she told People. Earlier this season she told a dating coach she wanted someone who adds to her life. They are long-distance for now, and she says they are working on getting him east.

A Farm, a House, and a Life She Built Herself
Underneath all of it sits the biggest brave step of all, and the least televised: the life Janelle built with her own hands. She bought 156 acres in North Carolina with Maddie and son-in-law Caleb, according to reports, and has spent the last two years building two houses on the land — one for her, one nearby for Maddie, Caleb and their children. Together they are building Taeda Farms, a flower farm where visitors will one day pick their own blooms. The farm had a slow first year, she told People, but next year should be bigger. “I feel so much more grounded, so much more rooted,” she said.

So here is the question splitting the fandom: is Janelle’s slow rebuild — bees, dancing, a blind date, a farm — the strongest post-Kody story of the three? Or does Christine, remarried and settled, still hold the crown? Team Janelle says courage is not always loud. Team Christine says a finished love story beats a work in progress. Which side are you on?
